Reel Science: Cronenberg's The Fly at Digital Gym Cinema
The Reel Science Film Series returns for its third edition with a new slate of science-fiction movies every Friday of May. Featured films will be paired with a local scientist who will provide contextualized and corrective feedback about the scientific themes presented following each screening. The series is a collaboration between San Diego Natural History Museum (The Nat), Digital Gym Cinema, and the Film Geeks San Diego. The Fly is a 1986 science-fiction biological horror film that tells the story of an eccentric scientist who, after one of his experiments goes wrong, slowly turns into a fly-hybrid creature. Introduction and contextualized and corrective commentary will be provided by UC San Diego cognitive science Ph.D. candidate Eric Leonardis. Please check out Eric's appearance on Beth Accomando's Cinema Junkie Podcast discussing this event and the science behind The Fly in depth!
